Attic Musings

I am banished to the attic again today. Actually it is the storage room we added with the addition, on the upper level. I feel like the crazy lady in the books that would peek out of the curtain and add to the mystery.

Today the last of the painting is taking place and the touch-up staining and varnishing is being done. It is looking so very nice. We also had the carpet layers here, and both bedrooms are finished. Now it is my turn to put on the finishing touches.

We have a wedding tonight for Cori Woldhuis, at Seymour CRC with the reception at Lincoln Country Club. We are looking forward to that.

Wednesday evening we were to St. Stephens to watch Aidan, Regan and Olivia in their Christmas program. It was very nice and they did a good job. It was mostly musical, but had a lovely reading of the Christmas story acted out by the older students. It is always a special occasion to see the grandchildren.

Back to the blog. With the Christmas parties finished for the season, I have been able to keep in touch with some other members from our church who have been going through hard times, and often requires phone calls. I just got off the phone with a very interesting gentleman that has had a long life of incredible experiences. Those are the people that inspire and encourage me, and I am always amazed that their stories are so fantastic, and should be put down for others to read. This gentleman was telling me about the fuel he hauled to the ship, the Edmund Fitzgerald, just before it broke in two and went to the bottom of Lake Superior. He said that the captain, called him in to have a meal in the galley (something he had done a few times before) and he said they ate 'high off the hog". He said the captain told him this would be the last load of ore he would haul and then was going back to be with his wife and boys in WI. Well he never made it, as we know.

There is another couple where both are struggling with their health. He has ALS and just had a bout with a parasite that nearly took his life, and she has had strokes and has lost a lot of her sight. He is now in a nursing home and she can not drive, so I am finding people to bring her to see him once a day.

Some deal with deep depression and others have serious struggles with family relationships. It just makes my heart hurt to think about their pain. Thankfully they all lean heavily on the Lord, so there is hope in each case.

God is good all the time, and especially now as we celebrate the gift he sent, to bring us hope now and for eternity. Praise the Lord.
